Original London Cast. This is a two-disc live recording, which makes it somewhat unusual for a cast recording right off the bat. The performances are all wonderful, in particular Maria Friedman, and the live version of “You Can Get Away with Anything” had to be replaced because of the noisy audience reaction, but it’s included as a bonus track. I always love a complete recording, since you get such a strong idea of the story, and even if you haven’t seen the show onstage, you are able to follow what’s going on. There are some very strong tunes (I had “I Believe My Heart” stuck in my head from the moment I heard it), and some more complicated and interesting moments as well. All in all, not my favourite Lloyd Webber show, but definitely worth picking up! |
