The novel by Mary Hayley Bell tells the story of a group of siblings who find a man in a barn who they believe is Jesus, and they keep the secret to themselves until the adults find out and suspect the man is a recently escaped convict. It was made into a film in the early 1960s before Andrew Lloyd Webber made his musical version of it. Find out more about the novel, the film, or the development of the musical.

There was a “concept” recording of this show released along with the original cast recording. I definitely prefer the cast recording – find out why in my reviews of the CDs, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.

I haven’t seen this show on stage yet. To be honest, it’s the one Lloyd Webber show that never really grabbed me, but perhaps that will be different once I see it on stage. I’ll be sure to add my thoughts here when I do!

Since I haven’t seen the show yet, all my favourite performers come from the recording – take a look at my thoughts on some of them.
