Len Cariou. The first Sweeney I ever heard, I think I will probably always imagine him sounding similar to Len’s interpretation. He struck a great balance between the more tender side of the character, reflecting on his wife and daughter, to the madman who slit throats and couldn’t wait to get his revenge. |
Angela Lansbury. The role of Mrs. Lovett has a lot of comic potential despite the essentially disturbing nature of the character, and she was able to nail all the comedic moments. She has a sort of frantic energy, and always seems cheerful, in direct contradiction to the morose Sweeney. For more about Ms. Lansbury, visit Angela Lansbury, The Unofficial Web Site |

Victor Garber. Victor is one of those actors that I love in everything I have ever seen him in, and, in this case, just heard him in. He is great as Tony, and does a beautiful “Johanna”, and I’m sure his acting was to the same level. You can read a brief bio of Victor at this site. |
Tyley Ross. I’d heard a lot about Tyley before, but this was the first show I got to see him on stage in. He was playing Tony, and did a really wonderful job. I wished he had had more to sing and do, but I enjoyed everything that he did do! His official site seems to be down, so for now visit the East Village Opera Company site to learn more! |

Regan Thiel. Regan has a beautiful voice, and handled the difficult score very well (despite the interruptions from the audience ;-). She was very sweet with Tyley, and great in the scenes with Judge Turpin as well. |
