The Life of a Wanna-Be World Traveller

June 25, 2002

*sigh* The wonders of hindsight. Had I known, when I wrote my last entry, what would happen on Friday night, I wouldn’t have been looking forward to it quite so much.

The long and short of it is that I was rather unceremoniously thrown out of my house. So I am stuck without a place to live until the beginning of next month. And, the place I’ll be living in at that time is nothing to write home about. However, it was a change that needed to come sooner or later, so I guess it’s just as well that it’s now. I am, however, deeply concerned about my cat. I wish he was here with me.

Despite all that, the weekend did have its good points! Alison was here, and we went to the “Images of Salvation” exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum that was really impressive. We also went to The Importance of Being Earnest (I finally located a theatre that was playing it!), which was very much fun, and we took in an always-entertaining performance of Mamma Mia!

The Joe McIntyre concert was also tons o’ fun. I couldn’t believe how many people were there! I tried to locate someone who had seen him in tick, tick, boom, but to no avail.

And, when I am feeling down, I just have to remember that I am leaving for Europe in 15 days, and everything seems much better. 🙂

My mood is so much better than it was last week! Probably because I had a fantastic time in Stratford over the weekend, and tonight I get to see Joe McIntyre in concert. Good times!

So, Stratford. My motel was fun (I think the fact that I was so impressed with it has a lot to do with staying at a lot of hostels lately). My Fair Lady was really, really good, especially Colm Feore. He was fantastic, and he actually sang the songs more than anyone I’ve heard do it before. Cynthia Dale was okay for the most part, except that when she should have been belting “Show Me”, she sang it all in her head voice, and it was really weak. The dancing in “I’m Getting Married in the Morning” was so much fun!

Then Saturday I went to the Stratford art gallery, ’cause they had an exhibit of theatre posters that was really interesting, and then I did some shopping in downtown Stratford and Shakespeare, and then to the theatre for The Threepenny Opera (or 3PO, as they call it :-). The show was long – 3 hours with two intermissions. It was okay, but I wouldn’t go again. The beginning was really different though – they actually had me wondering if it was supposed to be part of the show!

And then Pimpernel in the evening! I do love that story. The play is a really faithful adaptation of the book, and I really enjoyed it. I do wish that Percy had been younger, but that’s really my only complaint. The set was really inventive, the cast was good (I especially liked Graham Abbey – I need to see him in Romeo and Juliet!), and overall I had a lot of fun!

The fun of the weekend was only increased when I bought People’s 50 most eligible bachelors edition, and found Alexei Yagudin on the list! Go Alexei! 🙂

I bought my ticket for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang this morning – I had to settle for an upper balcony seat, unfortunately. 🙁 But still, it will be fun just to be in the theatre with Michael Ball on stage!

Is it bad that it’s Monday morning, and I’m already looking forward to Friday evening??

Blah – this month has been boring. 🙂 Hopefully that will change soon though! This weekend is Stratford, which should be fun! I’m renting a car, staying in a motel, and seeing 3 shows. I also hope to go do some shopping in Shakespeare, which I’ve wanted to do for a while.

Next weekend Alison is coming down! We are going to see an exhibit at the museum of ecclesiastical art. And Mamma Mia. 🙂 And I might see Laurie too. Oh, and Tom Cruise’s new movie opens. Lots of good things.

Today is Shirley’s last day at work here. And tomorrow is Zorana’s. I’m sad. 🙁 It’s going to be very lonely here without them!

For some reason, the UK Ticketmaster site won’t let me access the day I want to buy tickets for. It’s very frustrating! I guess I’m going to have to give in and call them.

I actually watched a bit of the Sweden-Argentina game last night, which is unusual, since I know *nothing* about soccer. The Swedish team has some cute guys on it though. 😉

Alright, since I have nothing interesting to say, I will stop…now.

Today is cold and rainy, but I actually don’t mind too much, since the weekend was absolutely gorgeous. On Saturday I went down to High Park and just laid in the sun for 2 hours – something I *never* do! As a result, I am a little bit burnt. 🙂 But not too badly, considering. I do have SPF 45 sunscreen after all.

I spent the rest of my weekend watching old skating competitions and waiting not-so-patiently for the Tonys, which finally came. I really enjoyed this year’s show, and am pretty happy with all the awards – the only two I would have really like to have seen go differently were Best Book and Best Featured Actor in a Musical, but really, out of 22 awards, that’s not bad. The performances were all fun, especially Urinetown and Thoroughly Modern Millie. And Hugh Jackman was there! 🙂

Nothing much exciting is going on this week. I am working on the apartment search. I am going to try to go swimming one of these days, as I’ve gone way too long without going. It’s not that I don’t like going – it’s that it doesn’t start until 2 hours after I’m done work, so I either have to stay at work extra long, or find something to do for those 2 hours. Most of the time I’d just rather go home.

I go to London in just over 5 weeks – yay!
