LOL…as I’m typing, my cat is perched on the edge of my dresser, staring intently at the pigeon that is perched on the top of my open balcony door. He’s a little too far away to make a jump for it, but he’s definitely keeping an eye on what’s going on. 🙂 I’m a little concerned the pigeon might decide to come in the door, and then we’d have a situation, but I’ll leave it for now and see how it goes. So yeah, New York! Well, what can you say? Fabulous, as always. I only ended up seeing three shows, instead of four, as we had a little trouble getting down to the city on Friday, and ended up parking at the Port Authority just after 8 p.m. 🙁 So that was disappointing, but I’ll survive! The shows I did see were very enjoyable. First, La Bohème. I rushed it, so I had a front row seat, and it was just wonderful. I cried. 🙂 I had kind of wanted to see David Miller as Marcello, but we had Eugene Brancoveanu instead, and he was wonderful! The whole cast was very good. I spotted Gilles a few times, but really, the chorus doesn’t do much in this show. And then I waited for him at the stage door, but it took me a while to get out of the theatre (since I was in the front row), so I missed him. 🙁 That night was Les Mis. After a bit of a scare about getting a ticket, I ended up in the front row again. 🙂 We had an understudy for Valjean, Roger Seyer, and he was excellent! I was highly impressed. And, of course, the whole point was to see Terrence Mann, and his Javert’s Suicide was just stunning. The rest of the cast was very good as well, but overall I preferred the Toronto production. And then finally, The Producers. Instead of front row here, I was in the last row of the second balcony. 🙂 But it was fine, and all I really needed to see anyway was Roger Bart as Leo, and he was just as fantastic as I thought he would be. He’s a great dancer! Besides Roger, the standout in the show was Cady Huffman – I always thought she was wonderful, but it was even more noticeable this time around. I got to talk to Roger too, and he’s so sweet! I got a picture, and he asked me if I would put it on my fridge. Maybe I will, just for him. 🙂 Other than that, my time was spent hanging out in various theatre district restaurants/bars, wandering down in SoHo at 2 a.m., visiting the WTC site, wandering around Battery Park and making a pointless trip to Queens to try to see an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art that ended up being sold out. I didn’t crash the rental car or anything, so all in all, it was a very good New York trip. 🙂 And on a completely different topic … did you SEE that Alias finale?? Oh my goodness!! I was screaming at the TV. It was incredible. I have NO idea what they’re gonna do next year. I need this show on DVD, all of it. It’s fantastic. If you don’t watch it, you MUST start next season!! Okay, there’s probably more I wanted to say, but right now American Idol’s coming on, and I think I should probably get the pigeon off my balcony. 🙂 |
