Okay, you’re probably wondering what’s up with the layout. ๐ Well,
it’s a combination of a few different things. First of all, the quote above โ comes from a song from the musical Atlantis, which I have just got an English recording of (which I shall discuss in further detail further below โ). The song has always struck a chord with me, as I am almost constantly in a state of wanderlust. And the other thing is that I am tired of people online assuming I’m American. ๐ I guess I just wanted to point out that as much as I love to travel and see other places, I do also *love* Canada, and I’m so glad to live here.
I am leaving most of the pages in the Elisabeth theme for now – and I will probably put up something different after July 1. ๐
Further to the Canada thing, I spent today behaving as a tourist here in Toronto, complete with camera and everything. ๐ This weekend is the annual Doors Open weekend, and I’ve meant to go every year, but never have, so I made a point of it this time. I stopped in at 7 different buildings around the city, many that I’ve always wanted to go in, and it was a lot of fun. It’s so strange to think that not even 200 years ago, Toronto (or York, as it was then called), was only about 1300 people, not even the size of Provost!
I also stopped in Queen’s Park, our provincial legislature, which was cool, but I’m so upset about politics right now in general. The PC party is actually campaigning on a promise to take away teachers’ right to strike. What kind of garbage is that? Elect us, and we’ll take away people’s rights??? Honestly! I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time I saw the commercial. I hope and pray that they get defeated by a landslide.
Um, anyway. Back to Atlantis! I’ve had the Danish recording for a long time, and now I’ve finally heard the show in English! It is a little strange at times, I find myself thinking of the way the Danish lyrics sound, and then I realize that I can actually understand this one. ๐ And the translations are really very good, unlike some of the awful, awful ones that I’ve heard lately. The cast is also really good, only a couple of smaller chorus members have really strong accents, and I really like both the Jabbadoor and Silvan.
I was going to try to see the tour of Aida that’s here in Toronto, but it doesn’t seem like there will be any half-price tickets available, so I guess I won’t see it. Which is disappointing, but I’d rather spend the money on my Titanic ticket or something. Speaking of which, why are they only booking Titanic in Hamburg through September? I hope they’re not closing it!
On a final note for today, I’m so happy that Hugh Jackman is hosting the Tonys! Should be fun.
