Quote of the day: “You’re going to be a journalist? Why would you want to do that? You seem so nice!” –The doctor I went to yesterday
Well, it’s New Year’s Eve, which has traditionally been for me a night to just stop and think about everything that’s gone on in the year. The last couple of years I’ve done this through an email to my friends, but I figured I’d give them a break this time and just type it up here. Here’s a quick summary:
January — I got to meet Julian Lloyd Webber! 🙂 That was probably the highlight. We also had a big ice storm in Ottawa, but living in res, I wasn’t too affected.
February — I got to meet Dan! He spent some time with me in Ottawa, and then I went to Toronto with Alison to see Phantom, and then met up with Karen and Gill as well to see Rent.
March — not much of anything, really. Just school and spending lots of time with my friends, Jen and Naomi.
April — the New York City trip, of course! A week with Karen and Gill, and seeing Titanic, Jekyll and Hyde, Phantom and the Scarlet Pimpernel. It was the best theatre trip of my life. Plus I got to meet the amazing Douglas Sills. 🙂 Plus I spent some time with Alison at the end of the month.
May and June — at home, working. Not too exciting. 🙂
July — more of the same, but took one day off to see Miss Saigon in Edmonton.
August — another Toronto trip, this time to Les Mis 3 times and Phantom once. I got to meet Lindsey and spend time with her, and we also met the wonderful Tim Howar. And I got to take Laurie to a musical!
September — moved into a real house in Ottawa!! 🙂 I also went to the 9th anniversary of Phantom in Toronto, which was so cool. And I saw Les Mis again.
October — spent a weekend at Alison’s, worked, went to school. It’s sucking the life out of me, I swear. 🙂
November — another awesome New York trip, to see Lindsey, and to see The Scarlet Pimpernel three times. I was too broke to eat this month, but it was worth it.
December — another Toronto trip for Les Mis, twice, with Alison. And then I came home for Christmas!
So all together, I went to the theatre 18 times this year (compared to 8 last year…I say that’s a pretty good jump! :-). I went to New York twice and Toronto four times. I also got to spend some really fun times with many of my good friends…Dan, Alison, Karen, Gill, and Lindsey.
What’s up for 1999? I wish I knew. I’m pretty melancholy right now, but that’s also typical for me on New Year’s Eve. I feel as though I’ve somehow drifted apart from many of my close friends, and I want to fix that. I also want to see Douglas Sills again before he leaves the show. 🙂 I’d also like to see Anthony Warlow perform, but I’m trying to stay realistic here. 🙂 I hope to spend next summer working in Toronto, hopefully doing something theatre-related. I also hope to make it through my third year of university with some half-decent marks. 🙂
I hope that anyone who reads this has a wonderful New Year, and that at least some wishes come true!
