Listen to me, I have beautiful dreams I can spin you…

In a way, it’s someone else’s story
I don’t see myself as taking part at all

Picture of the day:

Mark Frankel as Gregory Orlov

Today is August 17…and it had been bugging me all day that this date should mean something to me. And I just figured out what it was! 🙂 It was 5 years ago today that I first saw Les Mis. And also left home for the first time. It was an eventful night. 🙂 Just thought I’d share!

You might be wondering what’s with the pictures today. Well, that’s an interesting story. 🙂 You see, many, many years ago, I watched the movie “Young Catherine” on TV, about Catherine the Great of Russia. It was one of those things that sparked my interest in Russia. Anyway, being a young girl, it was kind of hard to miss the guy who played Gregory Orlov. For the longest time, he was my ideal picture of the 17th century man (this was before Percy Blakeney :-). Then, about 4 years ago, there was this great vampire show on TV, called Kindred: The Embraced. Being a vampire fan to begin with, I loved this show, and especially the lead guy, who played Julian. Now, just recently, they’ve been showing reruns of Kindred on the Space channel, so I’ve been watching it again (there was only ever 8 episodes). I noticed the name of the guy who played Julian, Mark Frankel, and decided I’d look it up online. But of course, I kept forgetting. 🙂 Then, this Sunday, I was flipping through the channels, and “Young Catherine” was on! I of course stopped to watch it, and when Gregory came on, who should it be but Julian!! I shrieked. I really can’t explain how big a deal this was for me. 🙂 So then I finally decided to get off my butt and look him up on the ‘Net, so I did, only to discover that he died in a motorcycle accident three years ago. So that was the end of the obsession (as I said in the last entry, it’s kind of hard to be obsessed with someone who’s dead), but I still think he’s a fabulous actor, and one of the best-looking men around. So this is my little tribute to him…if you have a chance to see him in either Kindred or “Young Catherine”, do it!

Anyone who actually read all that deserves a special medal of honour. 🙂

Continuing on the Elvis theme I was on last time, my sister and I watched all the stuff that was on last night, since it was the anniversary of his death. They played “Blue Hawaii” and “Fun in Acupulco”, which were both *horrid*, and “King Creole”, which was better. They also showed his “Aloha from Hawaii” concert, which was fun, but I’ve seen it before. I wish they’d played the ’68 comeback special…now *that’s* a concert! I’ll just finish by saying that “Chadwick” is the most horrible name ever, and I didn’t know it was possible for Angela Lansbury to be even *more* annoying than usual.

I’m almost finished registering for my courses…I got into the arts reporting course I really wanted (thank goodness!), but I’m having a bit of trouble getting the online one…I’m still hoping it’ll work out though! I’m actually doing a newspaper workshop, which is going to be pretty much a full-time job for the first term…oh joy. And I’m already going to miss one day for the Germany trip…I can just guess how impressed my prof’s gonna be with that. But I’m going to Germany no matter what. 🙂

Just one further rant about my computer, and then I promise I’ll try to stop for a while. I got a call from Canada Post the other day…they *think* my computer got sent back to the States. That’s just wonderful. So I call the U.S. Postal Service…they have an “undeliverable mail” place in Atlanta, but apparently this place DOESN’T HAVE A PHONE NUMBER, so I have to WRITE THEM A LETTER and ask if they have my computer. How stupid is this??? And I’m going back to school in like two weeks…I kinda need my stuff! ARGH!!!

Anyway, my mom wants to go get a movie, and I need to calm down :-), so I should log off for now. Have a great weekend!
