 Maria is a spirited young Austrian woman studying to take her religious vows.  The Sound of Music is based on the amazing real-life story of Maria Kutschera and the Trapp family, and their escape from Austria during the rise of the Nazis. The story had already been made into a couple of successful German films by the time it became a Broadway musical, and after that a Hollywood movie that captured the world’s heart. |

  Of course I had seen this movie many, many times, but I hadn’t actually seen the show on stage until the summer of 2001! It was wonderful to see it live, and, of course, quite different from the movie. Read more of my thoughts on that particular performance. |
