Seussical was co-conceived by Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Eric Idle. It had its first reading in New York in May 1999, followed by a workshop in Toronto in August that year. The show opened in Boston in late summer 2000, and began previews in New York in October. Opening night was November 30, 2000 at the Richard Rodgers theatre, starring David Shiner, Kevin Chamberlin and Janine LaManna. The show was nominated for one Tony award, for Best Actor (Kevin Chamberlin). It closed on Broadway on May 20, 2001. A U.S. tour began on September 17, 2002, playing through the spring of 2004. The rights for Seussical are now available, so watch for a regional production somewhere near you! |
