The Original Broadway Cast. This was the first recording I got, and I loved it from the first time I listened to it!! The music is so haunting. The best thing about this recording is its completeness. It includes many of the smaller parts that I just love. Also, the cast is just fabulous!! Mandy Patinkin as Archibald Craven is wonderful…I still cry everytime I hear his “Race You to the Top of the Morning”. Robert Westenberg is great as Dr. Craven, and Rebecca Luker is amazing as Lily!!! The children are great as well…I don’t have any complaints as far as the cast is concerned! |

The Original Australian Cast. As much as I love the Broadway cast, this one manages to top it! Anthony Warlow as Archibald Craven…what can you say?? He’s perfect. And hearing him sing “Lily’s Eyes” with Philip Quast as Dr. Craven is just breathtaking! Marina Prior is great as Lily, although I’d have to say I probably like Rebecca Luker better. I do, however, have one major complaint about this recording…it’s FAR too short!!! Only 8 songs in which to hear this phenomenal cast. It’s just not fair! |

The Original London Cast. The moment I put this CD on, I remembered just how much I love this show, especially the music, and this recording certainly does a fine job of showcasing that music. Philip Quast makes a great Archibald, and the rest of the cast is very good as well. It’s much more complete than the Australian recording, but my only small complaint here is that the orchestra sounds a little thin – I’m not sure what it is, but something seems missing. However, barring that, it’s a lovely recording, and I’d recommend it to any fan! |
