Original Vienna Cast Recording. Of course I had very high expectations from this recording, being such a big fan of Kunze & Levay’s work, and though the music didn’t immediately grab me in the way that, say, Elisabeth did, it is still a great score, and I appreciate it more every time I listen to it. (Although I regularly skip “I’m an American Woman”!). The cast is wonderful, most especially Susan Rigvava-Dumas as Mrs. Danvers – she is just amazing, the power and severity in her voice. Wietske van Tongeren and Uwe Kröger are also great. If you are a fan of Elisabeth or Mozart, you’ll find a lot to enjoy in this recording, and even if you aren’t, the melodies will stick in your head for days after you’ve finished listening to it. |
