Ragtime

The Ford Center in New York City
I was lucky enough to intern in the press office for this show in the summer of 1999, so I got to know quite a bit about it. I greatly respect everyone involved in it, and think it is an ambitious, moving show.

The show premiered at the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto in 1996, and went on to play at the Schubert Theatre in Los Angeles. It opened on Broadway in December of 1997, and won 4 Tony Awards in 1998. The Broadway production closed on Jan. 16, 2000, and a touring production played across the U.S.

A London production opened on March 19, 2003 at the Picadilly Theatre, and closed on June 14, 2003.

The show was revived on Broadway on November 15, 2009, closing on January 10, 2010. This production received seven Tony nominations.

The show has also been performed around the world in countries such as Australia, Japan and Germany. It is popular with regional theatres, and was revived in 2011 at the Landor Theatre in London. It will be performed at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in London in the summer of 2012.
