After my great success with standing room tickets for the show in May, Alison and I decided to try it again this time, and though we weren’t first in line, we did still get in! The standing room thing has evolved too, so that we were given a pep talk by the usher before the show began. 🙂
We weren’t sure if Nathan Lane would be in, as he was having vocal problems, and was supposed to be on vocal rest but had insisted on performing anyway. Though I did feel really bad for him several times (it just sounded like it was painful to sing, and I would have completely understood if he hadn’t made the show), I was also really glad that he was there, because his performance is so brilliant!
There were several little things that I had forgotten about that were so funny – like Leo jumping on his briefcase so it doesn’t get away from him, Carmen’s “If it was your intention to shoot an arrow through my heart – bullseye”, and Ulla’s “Why Bloom walk so far down stage right?” And those are just a few – the whole thing was, of course, hilarious. I don’t think I found it quite as funny as I did the first time around, but I’m sure that’s because this time I was expecting it. And I did still laugh pretty hard at several things that I knew were coming. 🙂
