![]() The Leading Player tells us the tongue-in-cheek story of Pippin, son of the 8th-Century King Charlemagne, who is on a quest to find his true calling in life. He goes through war, love, politics and other pursuits before settling down with a decent woman and her son. Read the complete synopsis. For an even more detailed look at how the story unfolds, take a look through the lyrics. |

![]() Charlemagne was arguably the greatest king of medieval Europe, and his son Pepin (or Pippin here) briefly ruled over part of the kingdom. Although based on real historical figures, the story of the show is completely fictional. Still, if you’re interested, you can read a bit more about the real Pepin, son of Charlemagne, or you can find out more about the development of the musical. |
