Into the Fire – The Scarlet Pimpernel

Douglas H. Sills Douglas Sills. This man is absolutely *incredible* as Percy! He’s perfectly suited to play a man Baroness Orczy described as “six foot odd of gorgeousness”. 🙂 I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed so hard in my whole life as I did whenever he was playing the fop! 🙂 He is one of my new favourite performers overall, plus he’s just one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet! For more about Douglas, check out the Unofficial Douglas Sills Home Page.
Ron Bohmer. I’d been hearing great things about this man for years, so when someone had to replace Douglas, I’m so glad it was him. And I finally got a chance to see him do the role on the tour, and he was both hilarious and heart-breaking – a wonderful Percy! To learn more, visit The Official Ron Bohmer Internet Site Ron Bohmer
The Mann Terrence Mann. I just adore this man, and it was nothing short of a dream come true to see him on stage! His Chauvelin was great…he managed to both scare me and make me laugh within minutes of each other! He was also incredibly nice in person!! If you want to know more about Terrence, check out Who’s da Mann?
Rex Smith. Although I don’t like his Chauvelin as much as Terrence’s, he still rocks altogether. (And no, I’m not just saying that because my friend Alison would kill me otherwise :-). He’s got a really powerful voice, and I guess he’s kinda cute. 😉 Find out more at the Rex Smith Official Online Magazine. Rex Smith
Rachel York Rachel York. The first time I saw her in the role, I was in the last row of the entire theatre, and I kept thinking that she looked just like Christine. But upon seeing her again close up, I realized I was mistaken. 🙂 She is, however, a really good Marguerite…she has a beautiful voice! You can find a little bit more about her at Broadway.com!

Christine Andreas.
I really have a lot of respect for her, because I *know* I would not be able to be on a stage with Terrence and Douglas in this production and be able to keep a straight face. 🙂 And she does a really good French accent too! Visit Storybook – The Official Christine Andreas Page for more information!

William Paul Michals William Paul Michals. I had no idea what to expect from his Chauvelin, but he quickly won me over. He has a dark, full voice that suits the role perfectly, and the potential for great comedy with Percy was definitely there. It was only his second performance that I saw, so I’d love to see him again once he’s had a chance to grow into the role a bit more! If you want to know more, visit the Official William Michals Website.
Linda Eder. She was on the concept CD, and I really like her voice for this role. In fact, I even think Christine Andreas sounds a bit like her at times, and I wonder if that was done on purpose! Anyway, she also does a *wonderful* version of “Only Love” on her CD “It’s Time”, which is my favourite version of that song! Please visit the Linda Eder Official Website for more information. Gilles Chiasson
Gilles Chiasson.
He was the original Armand in the Broadway production, and although he doesn’t sing a lot, “You Are My Home” is just beautiful!! And he’s a really good actor as well! But does anyone else find it strange that Marguerite has such a strong French accent and Armand is decidedly American? 🙂 To find out more, visit For the Honor of Your Name.
James Bohanek. I saw him 8 times as Armand, and though the part was cut so much in the second version, he still made a wonderful impression. He’s got a lovely voice, and he’s just so darn cute! 🙂 Find out more about all 3 Pimpernel James’ at James Page James Bohanek
da Storm Doug Storm. This guy is just too funny. He was a wonderful Leggett…which isn’t the biggest role, but he did so many little things that really established a distinct character for the part. I especially loved what he did in Into the Fire and Creation of Man. He’s great!
Chuck Wagner. He was on the concept album with Linda Eder, and though I still haven’t heard most of it, I simply *adore* his version of “Into the Fire”. The Broadway version is good as well, but I find Chuck’s more inspiring…in large part because of the orchestration, but also because of the way he sings it. You can find Chuck’s official page here. Chuck Wagner
Bryan Batt Bryan Batt. It was really weird to see someone other than Douglas as Percy, but Bryan did a fabulous job!! His Percy is quite different than Douglas’, but not necessarily in a bad way. And when he let loose with that voice, it was great! I really wish he had got the role in the new show, but I’m happy for Ron as well. Visit the Official Bryan Batt Webpage for more!
Tom Zemon. I noticed him as Farleigh (it’s kind of hard not to!), but where he really impressed me was when I saw him as Chauvelin. I don’t like the character of Chauvelin very much in the new version, but Tom managed to give him some sympathetic qualities, and despite the songs being a bit too high for him, he did them beautifully. Tom Zemon
Peter Flynn Peter Flynn. I’ve loved all the Eltons I’ve seen, and Peter was another fabulous one. I especially loved what he did in the library scene! I didn’t get a chance to see him as Percy, but I’ve heard he was wonderful – as I’m sure he would be!
Terry Richmond. She was a fabulous chanteuse in the old version, and her little shrieking match with Douglas in the new version had me on the floor every time! Not to mention the fact that she’s a wonderful person, and after hearing her sing at Don’t Tell Mama’s, there can be no doubt of her talent! Terry Richmond
William Thomas Evans Bill Evans. I wish I could have seen him as Percy! I’m sure he was great. He has a beautiful voice! He was a wonderful Bounder (“methinks he is not amused…”) and again, just a really sweet guy.
David Cromwell. He’s probably one of the very few people that has been in the show every single time I’ve seen it. He has some wonderful comedic moments, and it, to me at least, something that sort of ties the whole show together. He’s also a very sweet and funny man! The Prince of Wales
Ken Labey. *sigh* Unfortunately I don’t have a picture to go with this one, but he is simply the best Grappin there could ever be! To read more of my gushing, visit my Ken Labey site.
