Into the Fire – The Scarlet Pimpernel

“Storybook” was wonderful, though my attention was riveted on a certain gorgeous blond man seated in a balcony not far from me. 🙂 I could tell immediately that Douglas was not quite “on” that night, though he was still incredibly wonderful. Rex and Rachel

were both marvelous.

I’ve been through the show before, so I’ll just do a highlights version…the library scene seemed really rushed to me for some reason. Doug Storm is hilarious during Into the Fire!! I still don’t like the rescue scene. Grappin was different…he laughed less than

normal, and at the strangest parts! I was a little confused. No ad-libs during the garden scene, but Rex did spell his own name wrong!! 🙂 When Percy asks him how it’s spelt, he started, “C h u” instead of “C h a u”, but I’m sure not that many people caught it. “Creation of Man” was a blast, as always. Doug Storm is hilarious in this one too, and David Cromwell up on the balcony was too funny! I adored Douglas’ “Shovelin! Hallo!” 🙂

The ball was as per usual…I finally got to see Douglas say, “Well, that was common!” after “Shut your trap!” 🙂 The footbridge scene was incredible, as always. He really drew out the line “tell me”, for some reason. It was like, “telllll meeeeeee”. Weird. And he slipped back into Percy-voice more than once, but it was effective. The “Into the Fire” reprise was not quite as touching this time, only because Douglas wasn’t quite as broken up as he has been. “I’ll Forget You” was fabulous, as always. I’m still not all that fond of Rachel’s “Oh my God!” in the carriage. The final scene was wonderful, of course, especially Douglas’ swordfighting until he realized that he does know how to fight. 🙂 I managed *not* to scream this time when he was beheaded…yay me! 🙂 I think they should take out the line “Do try to articulate”, because Rex is not blubbering by any means. I loved the interaction between Douglas and Rachel…they’ve really clicked since the last time I saw it. And, of course, I was crying at the end, not sure whether or not I’ll get to see Douglas again before he leaves.

I got to meet lots of people at the stage door that I hadn’t had the chance to before, thanks to Colleen and Kel! Highlights were talking to Stephen Hope, David Cromwell, Rachel, and Rex.

The Quotes:

“Prepare yourselves…”

Me, to Alison and Tara before Creation of Man

“We’re not groupies until we start sleeping with the cast members.”

Kel, on the definition of a groupie

“Ottawa….Ottawa…”
“It’s the capital…”
“Well, I *know* that!”
Me offending Stephen Hope. 🙂

“And I thought singing “Sunset Boulevard” was hard!”
