The Point of No Return – Phantom of the Opera

Summary

I already have a synopsis of the show typed out, but this is a little different. This is a poem I wrote shortly after seeing the show for the first time…it was my way of making a synopsis for it. So I’m going to share that, along with pictures from the show. I hope you like it!!

The Phantom

A man, without a face, condemned by all from birth

Locked in a circus cage, and travelled ’round the earth

Although he was a genuis of music and song the same

His face was all they thought of when they heard his name

There for people to gawk and stare, hatred building inside

So soon the horror of his mind was all the mask would hide

He escaped from them and ran away, to hide deep underground

The Paris Opera was his home so he would never be found

Until, one day, he fell in love, with a singer young and shy

Gave her his gift of song, and for her heart he’d try

But like the others she turned away from the grotesque, inhuman sight

Leaving him all alone to stay in his dungeon of the night

No gentle words were turned his way, no compassion ever shown

And so, he turned to the only emotion that he had ever known

He killed for her, and kidnapped her to try to force her love

But all that was in her mind was her fiance up above

And so, he gave her her freedom, and she swore to never tell

How he would live down there for all his life, in his despair, his hell.
