The Point of No Return – Phantom of the Opera

Maskerade

“…he’d moved like music, like someone dancing to a rhythm inside his head. And his face for a moment in the moonlight was the skull of an angel.”

Never having read any of Terry Pratchett’s work before, this book came as a bit of a surprise. 🙂 It’s really a comedy, about a young singer, who goes to the big city to try her luck as an opera singer, and two witches who follow her, convinced she should be a witch rather than a diva.

“No one had asked her, before she was born, whether she wanted a lovely personality or whether she’d prefer, say, a miserable personality but a body that could take size 9 in dresses.”

For anyone who doesn’t like Christine, this book features a character by that name, who is little more than a good-looking airhead…I’m not going to say anything about that. 🙂 It’s not really the Phantom story, but more of a play on it. It is, however, a fun read, if you’re not looking for something serious.

The “Phantom” in this story is not Erik at all, so I can’t really comment on that. But there were several things that made me laugh while reading it, and I guess it’s healthy to be able to laugh at your favourite obsession now and then. 😉

“A man who wears evening dress all the time, lurks in the shadows and occasionally kills people. Then he sends little notes, writing maniacal laughter. Five exclamation marks again, I notice. We have to ask ourselves: is this the career of a sane man?”
