
Passion opened in New York at the Plymouth Theatre on May 9, 1994 and ran for 280 performances, closing on January 7, 1995. It won 4 Tony Awards (Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, and Best Actress – Donna Murphy) and was nominated for 6 others. On March 26, 1996, a revised version opened at the Queen’s Theatre in London, where it was nominated for 4 Olivier awards, winning one for Best Actress – Maria Friedman. This production closed on September 28, 1996. In 1997, the cast re-united for a series of concerts in London.
In 2002, the show was part of the Kennedy Centre’s Sondheim festival, running for a limited engagement of 15 performances from July 19 to August 23, 2002. A production played at London’s Bridewell Theatre from March 4 – April 3, 2004.
A Dutch production starring Stanley Burleson as Giorgio, Pia Douwes as Clara and Vera Mann as Fosca played in the fall of 2004 in The Hague.
