All the Wasted Time – Parade

Parade opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Centre in New York on December 17, 1998 and closed February 28, 1999 after 84 performances. Whatever the cause of the short run, it doesn’t detract from the quality of the show. It was a moving, serious piece of theatre, which, though it had some flaws, did not get the attention it deserved.

The show won two 1999 Tony awards, for Best Score, and Best Book. I think it probably would have won Best Musical, if it wasn’t closed. A national tour followed, and regional productions have since sprung up across the U.S., with productions in Canada and the U.K. as well.
