Live French Double CD. This is one of those fantastic scores that brings people who don’t normally like Broadway music into the theatre. There are so many great tunes, I can’t even begin to name all the ones I like. And they get stuck in my head way too easily! The cast is fantastic, and I love the original French lyrics. Plus, it’s a very, very complete representation of the show. I highly recommend this recording! |

Original English Cast Recording. I was a little disappointed with this recording, not because of the cast, which includes many of the original French performers, but because the translations are not really that great, and because it’s missing some of my favourite pieces of music. I’m hoping they’ll release a full recording if it ever gets to Broadway! But, if you don’t understand French at all and would like to know what’s going on in the show, this’ll help you out a bit. 🙂 |

Italian Cast Recording. As I said above, my biggest concern with the English recording was the translations – well, I can’t comment on the Italian translations, as I don’t know a word of Italian. 🙂 But translations aside, this recording is very good. As this is a highlights recording, just 16 tracks, I still miss a lot of the bits that are left out. Still, I think in general I might actually prefer this to the English recording! |

Spanish Cast Recording. This recording is very interesting! Many of the orchestrations have a real Spanish flair to them – the Spanish guitar adds a flamenco/tango feel to many of the tracks. This was certainly present in the original recording as well, but it really seems to some into its own with the Spanish lyrics. This is only a highlights recording as well (16 tracks), but the cast is very good, and I think it’s probably my second favourite recording, after the French one. |
