I’d seen the movie of this show, of course, but this was my first time seeing the show on stage, and I really enjoyed it!
One of the main reasons I wanted to go was that Colm Feore was playing Henry Higgins, and he was fantastic! He actually *sang* the songs more than anyone I’ve heard do it before. He has that straight-laced air about him, that made him completely plausible as the upper-class, disinterested bachelor. I actually considered going back to the show a second time because I thought he was so wonderful.
Cynthia Dale was okay for the most part, meaning that her accent was passable. 🙂 My only real complaint would be that when she should have been belting “Show Me”, she sang it all in her head voice, and it was really weak.
The supporting cast was filled with wonderful people like Susan Gilmour, Regan Thiel, Charles Azulay and Thom Allison. The overall production was as fantastic as I’ve come to expect from Stratford. Costumes, sets, staging, everything was just perfect. The Ascot Gavotte was incredible, and the dancing in “I’m Getting Married in the Morning” was so much fun! It seemed that everyone in the audience has a great time, if the enthusiastic curtain call was any indication.
