Craig Bierko. With all the talk of how close his performance was to Robert Preston, it may not have always come across just how wonderful he was in this role. Although I didn’t see it for myself, the recording and various TV appearances were enough to convince me that I would have loved him as Harold Hill! |
Rebecca Luker. She has one of the most beautiful, pure sopranos I’ve ever heard, and I was so happy to have the chance to see her do this part on stage. Her “Goodnight, My Someone” and “My White Knight” were breathtaking! I have loved her in everything I’ve seen/heard her in, and this just confirmed how brilliant she is. Eric McCormack. I knew that Eric had been at Stratford before he made it big on TV, so I knew he must have some talent. 😉 But he really impressed me in this part! Aside from the intial thrill of realizing that it was actually him, I soon forgot about that, and saw him only as Harold Hill. He did a great job at singing all the songs, and was just thr right mixture of charm, underhandedness, and in the end, vulnerability.
