Warum kannst du mich nicht lieben – Mozart!

Music by: Sylvester Levay

Book and Lyrics by: Michael Kunze

Original production directed by: Harry Kupfer
Based on the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The untimely death of one of the greatest composers of all time has always been a source of interest and speculation, and his life is no less interesting. Read through the synopsis for this show’s take on the legend.

Browse through the lyrics in their original German. (English translations coming soon!)

More than 200 years after his death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is perhaps better known than ever. His music and the story of his life and death have earned immortality. Read a bit about the real Mozart, or read more about the development of the musical.

I was hoping they’d make a Hamburg recording of the show, but no such luck! Still, you can read my review of the Vienna CD, or listen to a clip from Wie kann es möglich sein (my current favourite song) or a clip from the ending.

I haven’t had the opportunity to see this show on stage. I had planned to see it in Hamburg in July of 2002, but the production closed at the end of June. Hopefully I will have another oppotunity to see another production at some point in time!

There have been some really great people in this show! Read a bit more about some of my favourites.

Once you’re done looking around here, check out some of the other Mozart! sites that are out there.
