![]() The Broadway Theatre, where Miss Saigon played in New York |
This was a favourite show of mine for years before I ever saw it on stage, but for some reason the experience of it on stage didn’t live up to the CD for me. Still, I’d like to see it again sometime and give it another chance! Miss Saigon opened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London on September 20, 1989, and played for more than 10 years, closing on October 30, 1999. In New York, the show opened at the Broadway Theatre on April 11, 1991, and finally closed on December 31, 2000. It won three Tony Awards, for Best Actor (Jonathan Pryce), Best Actress (Lea Salonga) and Best Featured Actor (Hinton Battle). There have been no less than 15 different worldwide productions, in 8 different languages, including the productions in London, New York, Tokyo, Toronto, Budapest, Stuttgart, Sydney, Copenhagen, Sceveningen, Stockholm, Manila, Warsaw, Hong Kong and two U.S. touring companies.
