Lucky Stiff was the first produced show for Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. It opened off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in New York on April 26, 1988, and ran for only 15 performances. However, the production received the 1988 Richard Rodgers Production Award, and a 1990 production at the Olney Theatre won Washington’s Helen Hayes Award for Best Musical.
The show has played all across the country in regional theatres, and has been performed in England, as well as having been translated to German and performed in Germany and Austria. In 2003, the show was revived as part of York Theatre’s Musicals in Mufti series. Many of the original cast returned for the five performances. |
