I didn’t really know anything about this show when we bought tickets for it. The afternoon before we went, I found and read an English synopsis, just so I would have at least some idea of what was happening, but the synopsis was pretty detailed, and I couldn’t get it all straight. 🙂 Anyway, it didn’t really matter – although I probably missed a few things, it certainly wasn’t hard to catch on to the general silliness and fun of the show.
I wasn’t familiar with this theatre group before the show either, but they really impressed me. The cast were all excellent (Lilly Kugler was a standout as Rita), and the direction was first rate. This is a show that involves a lot of quick set changes and imaginative use of props and staging, and the show always kept up the pace. We especially enjoyed the creative ways that they showed Harry fulfilling his uncle’s requests for activities he wanted to do in Monte Carlo. The costumes were very good, and the sets were great – slightly off-balance geometric shapes and bright colours that added to the light-heartedness of the entire performance.
Having just come off seeing Elisabeth two nights in a row, this show was a very nice change, and I would love to see another production by this group sometime!
