My Eyes Adored You – Jersey Boys

Music by: Bob Gaudio
Lyrics by: Bob Crewe
Book by: Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice
Directed by: Des McAnuff

Jersey Boys is based on the life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. The musical chronicles the lives of a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide – all before they were thirty. Read the complete synopsis.

As a teenager living in Newark, New Jersey, Frankie Valli sang with the Varietones, who later changed their name to the Four Lovers. With the addition of Bob Gaudio, they changed their name to the Four Seasons and began working with Philadelphia producer Bob Crewe. During a hitmaking streak that spanned the years 1962-68, the Four Seasons netted two dozen Top Forty singles, including the Number One hits Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man and Rag Doll. There’s only one recording of this show available so far, but with productions around the world, it shouldn’t be long until we get some more. In the meantime, read my review of the CD, or listen to a clip from one of my favourite songs.
Since I moved to the UK shortly after this show opened in New York, I didn’t get a chance to see it until the London production opened in 2008 (and I almost missed it there too, but was able to see it on my last night before flying home – whew!)
Read more about my experience with the show.

I think portraying a real person (especially one who might come and watch the show sometime!) can be a real challenge – read about some of the great performers who do it in this show.

Once you’re done looking around here, check out some of the other Jersey Boys websites that are out there.
