Good ‘n’ Evil – Jekyll & Hyde

Music by: Frank Wildhorn
Original production directed by: Robin Phillips

Book and lyrics by: Leslie Bricusse
Based on
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Driven by the madness of his beloved father to try to find a cure for the ills of mankind, Dr. Henry Jekyll discovers a way to separate the good from the evil inside of people – but not how to control the evil once it’s released. Read the story of the show.

This is another show that’s been through a variety of versions. Read through the lyrics from the concept recording, from the complete recording, from the Broadway production, or from the German version.

The novella Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is considered a classic tale of horror, and it is a fascinating piece of work. Take a look at some of my thoughts on the novel, or read a bit more about the development of the show from that novel.

Each incarnation of this show that I’ve seen has been incredibly different. When I took an arts reporting class in university, I decided to do some research into how and why that is. If you’d like, read my finished article!

There are quite a few recordings of this show available so far, which are all pretty different, and are a good indication of the changes that the show has gone through. Visit my sounds page to hear clips from the recordings, or read my reviews of the CDs.

If you want to play or sing the music for yourself, there is also sheet music available.

I’ve seen three different versions of this show, and it was almost like seeing three different shows! And I have very definite opinions about which version I prefer. 🙂 I’ve written reviews for all of those times, some more in depth than others, so feel free to browse through some of my experiences.

There have been some really incredible performers in this show – these are some of my favourites! I also just need to note that this is the show that introduced me to my favourite actor, Anthony Warlow, so it will always be special for that. 🙂
