The Origin of Love – Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Original Cast Recording Original Cast Recording. This is the first recording of this show I owned, and perhaps partly due to that, it is my favourite. The songs are in the order they appear in the show, with the addition of the song “Random Number Generation”, which, I have to admit, I mostly skip over (although sometimes I’m in the mood to listen to it!). But the rest of it is fabulous. John Cameron Mitchell is perfect, and I love the orchestrations. “Origin of Love” and “Wig in a Box” are particularly brilliant. I got so used to the timing and delivery of the songs on this CD, that it almost sounded strange to hear them a little bit differently in the movie!
Original Movie Soundtrack Original Movie Soundtrack. I guess the idea behind this CD was to release more of a rock album than a traditional soundtrack. The songs are out of sequence from how they appear in the film, and there are several of “Tommy’s” songs added: “Freaks”, “Nailed” and “In Your Arms Tonight”. It almost has a live sound to it, not as produced as the cast recording. I definitely enjoy this one as well, and if you’re a fan of the show, you’ll want to have it, but I would recommend the cast recording first!
