The Translators
When producers decide to mount a show in another country, they are faced with the problem of translating the show’s dialogue and lyrics in a way that is faithful to the original, while also pleasing to the native audience. This is a quick look at a few of the most – and least – successful translations I’ve come across.
Jesper Tydén
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Jesper was performing as Crown Prince Rudolf in Elisabeth in Vienna and as Chris in Miss Saigon in St. Gallen, Switzerland when I conducted this interview with him in 2003.
