| Bob Martin. In so many ways, this is his show – it was originally created for him, he wrote the book, AND he stars as the man who guides the audience through it. And his appeal in that part surely has a huge part in the show’s success. The Man in Chair is such a theatre geek, which is so completely relatable for me. 🙂 When he talks about how he is obsessed with certain moments in a show, I know exactly what he means! He is just adorable and wonderful in the part. I can’t imagine anyone else doing it quite as well. |

Sutton Foster. She was utterly winning and wonderful in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and this show, set in the same time period, draws upon all the things that made her so great in that other role. “Show Off” is a perfect example – the singing, dancing and various other talents she displays with such ease. From another actress, it might be seen as a bit obnoxious, but from Sutton it’s just charming! |

John Patridge. As Percy Hyman playing Robert Martin, John did a fantastic job as the impossibly handsome matinee idol who’s trying very hard, but in the end is not that great an actor. I think that acting as if you’re doing bad acting is actually really quite difficult to do, but he does is wonderfully. He is also of course a wonderful singer and dancer, all of which makes his performance in this part very memorable. |
