Since I missed the Broadway cast of this revival (through my own stupidity), I decided I had to go see it when it was in Toronto, and my roommate, Marie, was up for it too, so we went one Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the theatre was *really* empty – I don’t know if I’ve ever been to a professional production that was so poorly attended. And it really was a shame because it was an enjoyable show.
The cast was pretty good for the most part. I thought Steven Gallagher as Charlie Brown and Charlotte Moore as Lucy were really just a little bit too old for the roles, but they did a good job otherwise, especially Lucy. Schroeder was fine, and Cara Leslie as Sally did a really great Kristin Chenoweth imitation. 😉 The other two, Daniel Murphy as Linus and Brian Sills as Snoopy, I did really enjoy. Linus was pretty much perfect, and although nobody could match Roger Bart as Snoopy for me, I didn’t have any complaints about this guy either. 🙂 Suppertime was the highlight of the show.
The other unfortunate thing about the show, besides the lack of an audience, was the band – the orchestrations seemed a little harsh for the simplicity of what’s happening on stage, and they were really too loud. It would have been even more enjoyable with a better balance between the music and the actors.
