In 1996, a documentary about Peter Allen, entitled “The Boy from Oz” was released, and Nick Enright used the same title for his musical version of Allen’s life, which opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Sydney in March 1998.
The Broadway production opened at the Imperial Theatre on October 16, 2003, starring Hugh Jackman as Peter, and closed there on September 12, 2004. The show was been nominated for 5 Tony Awards, and won for Best Actor for Hugh Jackman. Hugh reprised the role for an Australian “arena spectacular” production from August 3 to September 10, 2006. |
