Betty Blue Eyes

Betty Blue Eyes at the Novello Theatre in London

The inspiration for turning A Private Function into a musical came to book writers Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman when they caught an airing of the film on late-night TV in Toronto. They approached George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, who had just finished writing the additional songs for Mary Poppins to write the score for their new show, and Cameron Mackintosh came on board as producer.

The London production of Betty Blue Eyes started previews at the Novello Theatre on March 19, 2011 with an official opening on April 13, 2011. The show opened to generally positive reviews, and continues to play there.
