Avenue Q opened Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003, where it was extended four times. It won several off-Broadway awards, including the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding New Musical.
It opened on Broadway on July 31, 2003 at the Golden Theatre, where it continues to play. The show was nominated for 6 Tony Awards, and won three, for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book.
A Las Vegas production opened up at the Wynn Las Vegas in September 2005, and closed in May 2006. The London production opened on June 28, 2006, where it continues to play at the Noël Coward Theatre. There are now several foreign productions as well, including Sweden and Finland.
