Princeton is a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He ends up in the only place he can afford – Avenue Q, with neighbours like Brian and his fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky and his roommate Rod; Trekkie Monster and Kate. Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life. I’ll have the complete synopsis up here soon – sorry for the delay!

This is one of those rare shows with no real source material, other than being loosely based on the perennial children’s show Sesame Street, and, of course, being firmly rooted in real life! The show opened off-Broadway, where it was extended time after time, before moving to Broadway.

Sadly, I haven’t seen this show yet! It was high on my list of things I wanted to see in New York in May of 2004, but it just didn’t work out that I was able to. Hopefully I’ll be able to see it soon, and I’ll add my thoughts here when I do.


I’ve discovered quite a few fantastic new performers through this show, and I’m sure the list would only grow if I saw it on stage. Take a look at some of my favourites.
