Well, I saw this show nearly six years ago, and didn't write a review of it at the time, so I'm going to have to go on really sketchy memories. :-)
The one thing that stands out the most in my head is the sets. They were absolutely amazing, and on a very grand scale, as most Livent productions tended to be. Alice and I were up in the front row of the balcony, so we had a great view of the whole stage, and the scope of the set changes and scenery.
The next thing that stands out is that the show was very long. :-) Not to say that we didn't enjoy it, or that it was uninteresting, just that there was a lot of material! But the cast handled it very well. I particularly enjoyed Terry Burrell as Julie (her versions of 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man' and 'Bill' were wonderful), and hearing 'Ol' Man River' sung live by a real bass was amazing (though I still wish I could have heard Michel Bell do it!). Eddie Korbich and Ann Van Cleave as Frank and Ellie were real highlights of the show as well.
For some reason, the scene I can see most clearly is the scene where they are displaying the passage of time before the ending, with the revolving door of the Chicago Palmer Hotel. I just thought it was very inventive, and perfectly fit the show and what it was trying to convey.
This is easily the oldest show I've ever seen, and was the first real revival I'd seen as well, but the fact that it was enjoyed so much by me and everyone else who saw it is a testament to the greatness of the show itself.
