I'm sure I'll have more favourite performers after seeing the show on stage, but for now, here are those that really stood out for me from the Paris cast:

Damien Sargue. Like everyone else in the cast, I'd never heard of him before this show, but I won't be forgetting him anytime soon. He strikes a wonderful balance as Romeo, between gentle lover and enraged friend, optimistic youth and grief-striken victim of fate. And he's got a great voice! Cécilia Cara. My first thought on seeing her in the DVD was: I want her hair! :-) She is really beautiful, and appears almost ethereal as Juliette. You can completely understand why Romeo would be smitten at first sight. She also has a lovely voice. Here's just one of many Cécilia Cara sites.

Tom Ross. I don't think you're really supposed to like Tybalt that much, but I found that I couldn't look away from him whenever he was on stage. He has a real presence, and, as they've taken a slight departure from the traditional interpretation of the character, he's got a bit more to work with too. I really enjoyed his performance.

Réjane Perry. Among all of the "secondary" characters, I thought that she really stood out as the Nurse. Great at the comedic parts, but with some more poignant moments as well, and with a really, really great voice that fits the music perfectly. Find out more at this Réjane Perry website.
