I kind of wish I'd realized this was the final part of Percy's revolutionary adventures before I'd read it, but I mean, it's not as if I didn't know that the Revolution ended and Robespierre was executed anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter. :-)
Anyway, I loved this book! I enjoyed it much more than the first one...and I think it's mostly because there was more dialogue between Chauvelin and Percy. I think those two characters are just hilarious together! Here's one of my favourite bits:
I also much prefered how Marguerite's character was portrayed in this novel, compared to the first one. I suppose the fact that she now knows that Percy is the Pimpernel makes a bit of a difference in how she behaves towards him, which was probably my biggest problem with her before. :-)
The main character of this book, if there is one, is Theresia Cabarrus, who, despite her obvious flaws, I found to be an interesting character, and one that you could sympathize with. I also completely related to her admiration of Percy and jealousy of Marguerite. :-)
So, without giving too much more away, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the story...it's got all the adventure, danger, comedy and romance that we've come to expect! Long live the Scarlet Pimpernel! :-)
