I fell in love with this show the first time I heard it. Of course, that may have had something to do with the incredible voice singing Jekyll/Hyde, but I like to think it was more than that. :-) The music and the story were completely captivating. This is a show that has gone through a LOT of changes to get to its current form.

The Plymouth Theatre in New York City
The first production of the show was in Houston, Texas, and after that was a national tour. The show opened on Broadway on April 28, 1997, and closed on January 7, 2001. It received rather bad reviews, and was only nominated for two Tony Awards (for Best Lighting and Best Actor-Robert Cuccioli). Despite that, it continued to play to good crowds, due largely to word of mouth and the support of the fans.

Jekyll toured through The Netherlands and Belgium from September 26, 1997 until January 28, 1998. A very successful production played in Bremen, Germany from February 19, 1999 and closed June 30, 2001. This production played later in Cologne, closing on April 25, 2004. A second national tour played throughout the U.S. and Canada in 1999-2000. A production opened in Vienna on September 29, 2001, and closed in 2003. The show has also been seen in Hungary, Sweden and Spain, with many more productions upcoming. The Hungarian production is currently playing. Amateur rights are also available, so look for it in a city near you!

All upcoming productions can be found at the official Jekyll & Hyde site.
