I hadn't seen Cats in 10 years, so I was quite looking forward to seeing it on stage again. The theatre was a great big new theatre, and when we walked in, there was a guy taking pictures of everybody, that you could buy at the end of the show - just like at a regular tourist attraction! I didn't really realize what was going on, so I look a little bit stunned in the picture, but it's funny anyway. :-)

We were sitting in the row right before an aisle, so we had a few close-up encounters with some of the cats. :-) The cast in general was really good. I was there mostly to see Ethan Freeman, and he certainly didn't disappoint. He was very cute as Bustopher, and great as Gus, with a perfect voice for him. The whole Growltiger sequence was a lot of fun, and the operatic passages were fantastic. Definitely a departure from anything I'd seen him in before, and fun to see him do something different!

John Partridge was the only other cast member I was familiar with, and he was wonderful as Rum Tum Tugger. He had very different readings of a lot of lines, variations on the notes that made it really interesting, and of course he has a great voice too. Cornelia Drese was wonderful as Grizabella too. "Memory" was beautiful.

"Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer" was fun, and I also really enjoyed "Mr. Mistofelees", which was one of my very favourite songs for years.

Anyway, my overall impression of the show was that it was a lot of fun, and a very talented cast, but still, as a show, it will never be one of my favourites. I could probably wait another 10 years before seeing it again!
